The African Elephant is today the largest land animal, it can measure up to 13 feet tall for a weight of about 7 tons. He lives mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, but also in northern South Africa. This mammal is easily recognizable thanks to its long ivory tusks, which can weigh up to 220 pounds alone, and its trunk which it uses for food. Unlike his cousin, the Asian Elephant, he has bigger ears, less hair and a more bulging back. The species is now declining because of poaching, but also the progressive destruction of its habitat.
